At times, life can feel overwhelming and you may not be sure where to start. If you are a parent, this may be a familiar feeling. Perhaps you have taken your kids or teens to other therapists and they have not been a fit. This can be discouraging and add to feeling lost and confused, unsure of how to help yourself or your child.
For some, it may be encouraged or conditioned to water other people’s grass and sometimes we may not have learned or seen what it looks like to water our own grass. Some of the work that happens in psychotherapy is building self-awareness and how to practice self-care based on unique needs.
I am a clinical social worker with a Masters degree from Wayne State University. I work with children, teens and young adults assisting in the development of healthy coping skills, life skills and building in resiliency with a growth mindset. This is done in play therapy, depending on the age, or through a variety of different modalities based on the needs and the work the client is doing.
The stress that comes from our internal and external world from the ages of 18 to 25 can be really quite overwhelming with the pressures and some decision fatigue. Therapy can help with this. Through the exploration and unpacking of life experiences and self-beliefs, I support young adults in working through difficult situations in a safe environment. Having the space, time and support to process difficulties helps to decrease overwhelm, allowing clarity of thought processes and creates more emotional flexibility.
I use a variety of different modalities depending on what a client may need in the work they are doing. My areas of work are working with children, teens and young adults. I provide support for a variety of issues which include: anxiety, depression, decision fatigue, life transitions ( changing schools/ going to college, feeling worried with the transition from youth to young adulthood, moving out on your own, going through a breakup, or falling in love), executive functioning skills and planning (organizing around money, school/life/work balance, getting ready for college), struggles with motivation or procrastination, relationships (expectations of cultural and family of origin or perhaps you need support with having a difficult conversation with a friend), exploring things you enjoy, learning about your personality and self development tools
I am currently going through the consulting process to be a Problematic Sexual Behavior Phase- Based Treatment provider. PBT has been successfully implemented in Children's Advocacy Centers and community mental health settings. It is individually administered and tailored, designed for children between the ages of 3 and 12. In addition, this treatment is evidence-informed, trauma-sensitive, culturally-adaptable and assessment-driven. For more information, please feel free to inquire.
