Anixety Therapy
How anxiety can be experienced:
If you are feeling overwhelmed with all of the daily things you need to do.
You may wake up in the middle of the night or have a hard time sleeping with all of the overload.
You may be feeling disconnected.
You replay situations in your mind over and over.
You might notice yourself feeling overwhelmed to try new things or keep a rhythm and schedule.
You may be worried about letting people down or or overly concerned about what they think.
You are often thinking you need to have things figured out and making decisions feels daunting.
Maybe it is hard to communicate your needs to others as you feel like a burden and do not want to push people away.
Even thinking about a therapist can feel daunting & overwhelming.
We are here to help with the process of getting starting.
Receiving support and treatment with someone who understands:
We know how daunting it can be to take a look at anxious thoughts and the feelings they produce. There are skills and support that help with the overwhelm and disconnect. It’s not your fault you are experiencing anxiety and if you hear someone say “just calm down, you’re over reacting”, or “this is not something to be upset about” and “don’t worry about that now.” They may not really understand anxiety, which can leave you with the thought and belief that it is your fault. This is not the case as it likely means the person does not understand anxiety and is not versed in it.
What is natural human anxiety verses experiencing anxiety that takes over my life?
All humans experience anxious feelings at times. Often people fight against these feelings which often makes the anxiety grow stronger. It becomes more of a problem when it stops you from living your life. With the help of a trained therapist, we work together to look at the full picture and approach therapy from a holistic perspective which means we work with the entire person and not just the symptoms. This is done over a number of sessions, each person has a different journey on how long it may take. This is something that is talked about with your therapist so you can create a plan that is in alignment with your goals and intentions.
Often anxiety is not something you can treat on your own. While it may be helpful to read, listen to podcasts, talk to family and friends and other forms of self-guided self help, it would not be the same as getting support from a therapist. As therapists, we have seen how much control anxiety can take over one's life and how it can show up in ways we may not be conscious of.
How will you be able to help me? I have so much going on and I do not know where to start.
That is a very natural thought to have. Being in a non-judgmental and caring space with someone who has the therapeutic tools to help you on your journey is a starting point. The first few sessions will be more information gathering and you may experience relief after the first session. Everyone has a different experience and journey. We live in a culture that wants immediate results and quick fixes. While you may experience relief after the first session, this is a process and we will build on the skills, tools and practices to bring into your life.
What if I need medication, do you prescribe?
Sometimes medication can be helpful for a person. Sometimes it is not necessary and one can manage anxiety without medication. Together, we can discuss different treatment options and decide on the best path for your unique needs. We do not have a provider on site, yet we can provide a referral.
Is telehealth therapy as effective as in person? How does privacy work for telehealth sessions?
For some people, telehealth is very convenient and allows them to have sessions without the drive time, allowing you to be in the comfort of your space, and not needing to have to get childcare. Telehealth can be very effective.
It’s important that you have privacy during your session. You would want to turn off other alerts and distractions to focus on your process during the session. You may want to use headphones or earbuds. Sometimes, clients have had a session in their vehicle (that is fine as long as you are parked and not driving). You may want to let others in the home know that you are in a session and will not be available during the time of your session.
What’s the next step? How do I schedule?
If you want to schedule an appointment, feel free to call or send us an email. Some folks want to have a 15/20 minute phone consultation call first and some are ready to schedule an initial intake session. If you would like to have a consult call, just let us know, other wise we will connect you with a therapist who has openings and do our best to accommodate your schedule. All of our therapists specialize in Anxiety.
